Purchase of Alaska

This political cartoon is about the Purchase of Alaska. The purchase of Alaska occurred when William Seward arranged to buy Alaska from Russia. The cartoonist thinks that although Alaska gave us valuable items, it doesn't have contribute to the US in other ways. This can be backed up because the words URSUS are all over the cartoon. URSUS means bears in latin. This suggest that a bear is the presidential candidate, which is completely useless. Another person might argue that the Alaska Purchase gave us valuables such as land, oil, gold, and timber. The cartoonist used labeling all over the drawing. The cartoonist also used symbolism because a bear cannot actually be a presidential candidate. I think it is also a joke, that the citizens of Alaska are penguins and bears. My position on imperialism is the it is not right, and that it hurts other nations. This political cartoon supports my position because the cartoon shows that Alaska has no real value, other than natural resources, which will eventually run out.
